New Release | SaveMyFriend: The Free Emergency Response App, Built by ER Doctors and EMTs
When someone near you stops breathing, collapses, or chokes — your ability to help them depends entirely on what you can recall under extreme stress. Most people can't recall much at all. That's the problem Save My Friend was built to solve.
Today, DopaGE is releasing SaveMyFriend - a free iPhone app that walks you through basic medical emergencies step-by-step, in real time. No AI. No login. No data collection. No internet connection required.
WHAT IT DOES
SaveMyFriend covers basic medical emergencies that anyone can be a first responder for, including:
Overdoses
Alcohol poisoning
Severe allergic reactions (anaphylaxis)
Altered mental status
and More
The app asks you one question at a time - written in plain english, with large buttons, and color-coded urgency. It’s designed to be easy to use for people who may be panicking, impaired, or both.
Every decision tree in SaveMyFriend’s algorithm was built entirely by emergency and addiction medicine physicians - including the inventor of Narcan® - and first responders. There is no AI making decisions at any point in the app. SaveMyFriend is purely established clinical protocols distilled into the simplest possible interface to help in the worst possible moments.
SaveMyFriend also includes state-specific Good Samaritan Law information so bystanders can act without fear of legal consequences.
WHY IT WAS DEVELOPED
DopaGE's Training Portal teaches people how to prevent substance use disorders and respond to substance-related emergencies before they happen. Unfortunately, these emergencies don't always happen after completion of the Training Portal. SaveMyFriend exists for the moment between wondering if something is wrong and first responders arriving - when a bystander's actions can determine whether someone survives or not.
“
Since my friend passed away from an overdose nearly 6 years ago, I have been bewildered that an app like SaveMyFriend did not exist. One of the people who was there with him that night wanted to call 911, but the others were scared of getting in trouble and didn’t think it was necessary - they thought he would be fine.
He wasn’t, he was 21 years old. If his friends had SaveMyFriend that night, he would still be here, he would be 27 now.
We built SaveMyFriend not just with careful execution of the clinical protocols, but also with careful consideration of the user’s experience in that high-stress, often confusing moment. We built it to work without cell signal, without needing a sign in, without AI integration, and without collecting any of your data - so that there is no reason why anyone would not keep this on their phone. The DopaGE team and I are on a mission to build technology that supports safety, happiness, and health for everyone, and SaveMyFriend will be a core part of that mission for years to come.
We hope you don’t run into any life-threatening medical emergencies, but if you do - SaveMyFriend will be there to guide you.
