The safest way to avoid Fentanyl (opioid) overdose is to not use psychoactive substances in the form of powders, crystals, or pills that are not prescribed to you by your doctor. However, if you have decided to use one of these substances recreationally, Fentanyl Test Strips are a fast and easy way to reduce your risk of overdosing from accidentally consuming Fentanyl.

Testing substances for unwanted Fentanyl is fast and easy (takes less than 3 minutes!) Here’s how to keep yourself and your friends safe:

How to Test a Drug for Fentanyl

For most accurate results, quickly prep that drug:

  • for Powders: break up any chunks, shake container and thoroughly mix powder

  • for Crystals: crush into fine powder, break up any chunks, shake container and thoroughly mix powder

  • for Pills: crush into fine powder, break up any chunks, shake container and thoroughly mix powder

    • NOTE: Crushing crystals or pills will not decrease their effects

  • How to safely dispose of Fentanyl-contaminated drugs:

    1. Mix the Fentanyl-contaminated drug with an unappealing medium such as dirt, sand, cat litter, or used coffee grounds.

    2. Place the mixture in a sealed container such as a plastic bag.

    3. Throw the sealed container in the trash.

DO NOT FLUSH FENTANYL-CONTAMINATED SUBSTANCES DOWN THE TOILET.

  • The test showed negative for Fentanyl, so is that drug safe?

All substance use carries risk of varying degrees. Depending on what you are using, where you are using it, who you’re using it with (always someone!), and many other factors, drug use can cause harm.

General practices to avoid drug harm:

    1. Test your drugs (Good job there!)

    2. Never use alone

    3. Carry Naloxone nose spray for opioid overdose reversal

    4. Start slow - you can take more later but you can’t take less after

    5. Avoid mixing with other drugs or alcohol

    6. Get consent and use protection for all sexual activity

    7. Eat something beforehand, drink plenty of water, and take rest breaks during use
